Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay

Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay is one of the best places in George Town to enjoy a platter of delicious, homemade Nyonya kuih. The traditional rice-based sweet treats were once a luxury served at high tea for wealthy Baba Nyonya families. Now, they are beloved by locals and tourists alike and are eaten throughout the day.

Moh Teng Pheow was founded by the Mook family in 1933 as a kuih factory, supplying kuih peddlers who would sell to families around town. As you step inside, you can witness staff and family members making kuih using traditional tools and techniques passed down through three generations. The Mook family remains resilient, preserving their father's vision for the shop to be a space that celebrates these local and regional delicacies.

Beyond the kitchen is a cosy and highly acclaimed restaurant where locals and visitors flock to indulge in authentic Nyonya cuisine. The restaurant was awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2023.
