Penang Botanic Garden
Penang Botanic Gardens was established in 1884, making it one of the oldest botanic gardens built by the British in a colonial settlement. It has seen many seasons of growth and deterioration but today it is well restored and one of the best spots on the island for nature lovers. A popular place for weekend exercise or meditation, the Gardens remain one of the few spaces that serves as a green lung to metropolitan Penang and is part of the Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve.
During your visit, you can explore over 10,000 plant species across the varied gardens, greenhouses and nurseries, or venture off into one of the many hiking trails available. While visiting the garden, it's important to remember we cohabitate alongside all sorts of wildlife including the cheeky long-tailed macaques that roam freely. But be warned - do not feed or antagonise them, or you’ll be chased by our friendly neighbours!
