Pinang Peranakan Mansion
Once the residence and office of 19th-century business magnate Chung Keng Kwee, this historic mansion now serves as a museum open to the public. Although Chung Keng Kwee was not a Baba himself, the Chinese courtyard building reflects the eclectic style of an elite Baba home. The mansion features a blend of Chinese carved wood panels, English floor tiles, and Scottish ironworks.
The Museum proudly exhibits over 1,000 Baba Nyonya artefacts, antiques and collectables. It showcases Straits Chinese interior design and customs, providing a glimpse into the unique cultural heritage and lifestyle of the Baba Nyonya community in Penang. This vibrant community blends Chinese and Malay customs and has its own rich traditions, cuisines and language; all a legacy of the Penang Peranakan community.
